Supporting Irish. Interview with NakedWithoutMyLippy - Holly Lenny

Hi girls! Today I have something a little bit different to share with you all. I took the plunge and emailed a well known Irish YouTuber and to my luck, she replied! I'm so happy to share with you all that I was able to interview Holly Lenny also known as NakedWithoutMyLippy on Youtube and Instagram. I came across Holly a good few months ago now and I just love her beauty videos and I think it's great to see a successful Irish woman out there! 

Holly Lenny is a successful 23 year old from Dublin. As a journalist and beauty addict Holly has taken the Internet and social media by storm, with over 21,000 subscribers Holly is virtually famous. Holly creates brilliant beauty videos on YouTube for us all to watch. I've been watching Holly for months now and as I said it is great to have an Irish YouTuber to relate to and to see Holly doing so well for herself! Holly is a big believer, like myself, in supporting Irish, whether it be our food or our people! I think we should all support each other in everything we do. The Irish can break the Internet, nevermind Kim K!

It was an absolute pleasure interviewing this lovely lady and once again thank you so much to Holly for putting in her time and effort. I hope you all enjoy this blog post as much as I did.

1. As your name is NakedWithoutMyLippy, what is your all time fav lippy?

This is so hard because as you can imagine I have so many lippies in my collection. I'd probably have to say, 'Rebel' from MAC simply because it was my first MAC lippy and in my opinion I feel it can be worn during any time of the year, day or night. 

2. How did you become interested in makeup? Was there a moment when it just happened or were you always obsessed?

I always LOVED makeup because my mum loved it and allowed me experiment with it from a young age, whether it was some red lippy and blue eyeshadow. She never told me I was too young for it like so many mums do, which I often think attaches negative messages to makeup. Yes, makeup can make someone appear older but I don't think messing around with it at a young age can cause any permanent damage. I doubt a six year old will create a fabulous smokey eye and winged liner to wear on the daily, but if they do then i'm jealous haha 

I really got into makeup when I moved to Milan at the age of 19. I was exposed to so many different brands, I met so many people in the fashion industry, it all really blossomed from there. I just loved how some lippy could make me feel so powerful and totally transform my mood. It was around this time the trends for clothes were getting shorter and skimpier and it just wasn't for me. I'm 6"3 in height, as you can imagine it's hard to find a dress without it looking like a t-shirt. I guess makeup always 'fitted'. 

3. Would you ever consider doing freelance makeup?

To be honest it has never crossed my mind. I guess doing my own makeup is so different to doing someone else's just because I know my own face so well, what suits it and what doesn't. I wouldn't have the confidence to do freelance makeup but I love to mess around with makeup if a friend asks me. 

4. What is your fav high end brand or even just product?

I love YSL because it's so luxurious and the packaging is art. However, lately I can't stop gawking at the Hourglass products. I'm determined to get my hands on a few of their products before 2015 is out. 

5. What is your fav drugstore brand/ product?

It has to be L'Oréal Paris. I feel they have an overall good selection of products that are of a high quality. I adore the Volume Million Lashes So Couture mascara because it's the only mascara my stubborn lashes seem to like. I also LOVE the Infallible 24 Hour Foundation. 

6. Any current makeup trends you hate or are just sick of?

I've recently heard of this 'strobing' makeup trend and to be honest i'm a little on the fence. No contour is used just a bucket of highlighter. I don't think this trend will take off like others just because so many girls deal with oily skin. I'm sick of sharpie brows if i'm honest.

7. Thoughts on contouring?

I LOVE contouring, it's absolutely incredible how it can transform your face. I think Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner are living proof of this, also who's to say no nips or tucks were involved. I personally can't do my makeup on the daily without contour.

8. How did it feel when you reached over 21,000 subscribers and how does it feel now, knowing that there are so many people out there that know you?

It was CRAZY! I honestly never in a million years expected it. My channel had a little viral moment after my Kylie Jenner lips video and my email was flooded with people subscribing. I'm so delighted that people are enjoying my content. I feel my videos are honest and i'm just one of those girls in the makeup aisle of Boots having the chats with other girls about makeup. I actually can't even picture 21,000 people, I don't know how the people with 1 million+ do! 

9. Finally, what is your view on makeup in general?

I love makeup. Makeup is a huge passion of mine and my dad rolls his eyes whenever I say it. Yeah, it can be somewhat expensive and i'm sure I do and have bought products I didn't need, but the thrills I get trying out a new product on myself or introducing it to some else is just wonderful. I always loved art and being creative so I guess makeup is another extension of art. 

I do think it's important not to rely on makeup as a security blanket but then again it's incredible that people with acne can totally have their confidence boosted with some foundation and concealer. I hate when people give out to others for wearing too much makeup because I don't see how it directly affects their life.

Never use lipgloss because I rarely do anyway

Before & After

I just wanted to share this before and after of makeup. It's crazy what makeup can do to your face but also how it makes you feel. Don't get me wrong,  I feel fine without makeup too but you just kinda feel a bit more glamorous when it's on.

In my opinion I think these types of photos should be shown more often. Just so everyone can see that you do look normal under all that makeup and editing. So here you have two untouched photos, taken by the same camera on my phone and that. I will say lighting is everything.

So yeah I think I'll do this from now on, no matter how bad my skin is. I enjoy these types of photos myself and I'm sure many will agree.

That was just a little thought of mine that I wanted to share with everyone!

How old were you when you started wearing makeup?

I attempted first when I was 13 and it just grew from there. I would say I started wearing makeup correctly when I was 15 and haven't stopped wearing it since.

Oh god it depends what mood I'm in. Mainly a neutral brown eye! Can't go wrong with neutral.

I don't wear makeup every day but yeah when I do I wear a full coverage foundation.

Yep I have and individuals and lash extensions. I love lashes!

I don't wear it everyday but when I do, I go all out and wear the whole shebang.

Realistically we all rather high end but we don't all have the money for it.

Blueeeeeeeeee like everyone else.

Browns and golds, anything warm and bronzy.

Yep I do I can't use my fingers to apply makeup except for concealer! But mostly Sigma and Real Techniques.

Do you prefer lipstick, lipgloss or none?

I'll pick lipstick only if I can have lip liner too?

What's one makeup product you can't live without?

Mascara!

Why do you wear makeup?

Because I want to.

Glitter all day err' day!

What is a makeup trend you never understood?

Thin brows or not filling in brows.

F80 brush by Sigma or I would love a beauty blender sponge, they seem amazing!

Gel, I find it the easiest to work with.

The 90's the super model makeup in particular!

Finally, a tip you wish everyone knew?
I think we have all heard it but less is more. Go easy on the liner, on the brows. Start with less shadow and build it up. It's all gradual.

Hi girls!

This blog post isn't much but I just wanted to show you a quick before and after!

Without makeup and then with makeup

I thought my skin looked fairly clear though so that's why I have a bare face selfie haha

Pictures were taken different days so just be aware!

I think this just shows the severity of how different girls can look with makeup, clearly this isn't a dash of makeup, this is a whole heap of makeip slapped onto my face!

But this is what I do when I wear makeup haha

I don't wear makeup every day but when I do, I go all out!

I get some people make a big ordeal about how different girls can look but you hardly think I have natural gold eye lids and purple lips? Like this is what makeup is for, to be creative, have fun with it!

I absolutely love makeup and everything about it and as for wearing it to impress others? Pfttt no one can appreciate my winged liner like I can because I probably spent and hour perfecting it and I am going to sleep with that liner on cause I'm so proud of it 💁🏼 

In my opinion you should wear makeup for yourself and no one else and to be some bit creative!

Anyway I better stop rambling on because I could go on for hours about this topic and we shall save that for another time !

My blog turned 1...month old today!

ONE MONTH OLD!

Hey everyone!

Today my blog has turned one month old, crazy how time is flying by.
Just want to take this time to thank each and every one of you who have supported me and read my blog. It's a massive achievement for me, I honestly do appreciate every single little thing!

I haven't even been in business for a year yet and I feel like I've accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. I only hope to learn and grow more and more from today on.

As I said at the start, my intention was not to be a blogger and that still stands, however I am really enjoying this and it's like a little hobby for me! Handy for when I'm away and can't actually do makeup, at least I have an outlet that I can talk about it on!

I have huge plans ahead for this so I can't wait to get home and get to work!
Also I get this blog is turning into being about myself more than makeup but that's only because I'm away at the minute and cannot do much. But don't worry the blog will be back on track and all about makeup when I'm home.

Which product do you still keep buying more of despite having plenty in your collection?

I would have to say foundation and concealer for clients but for myself definitely lip products and eye shadow palettes.

What is the one product you cannot live without?

Like I can't decide? I suppose mascara overall but like I CANNOT live without my ABH dipbrow or else my MAC pro longwear concealer.

Fav makeup brand? 

I don't have one, I love them all but I suppose if I have to pick then lets jump on the band wagon and say MAC. #macgirlandproud

How big is your makeup collection?

Ah it's big enough I suppose, I need more money and even more storage to help it grow. The collection will never stop growing though.

And how do you store it?

I keep my brushes in glass jars I got in EuroGiant for €1 each, my lipsticks are stored in a lipstick stand from eBay and the rest of my makeup is stored in a large box, shout out to my amazing brother Kenny the carpenter for building me it!

How many items of makeup have you got in your handbag at the moment?

I don't carry makeup around because I believe if you apply it correctly in the morning then there should be no need to touch up throughout the day.I suppose lipstick re-touching is grand I just don't do it and if I get oily out and about then blot with some tissue paper!

About an hour and as for products? Well over 40 anyway

Yeah all the time, like green eye liners and blue eye shadow. I always end up giving it away.

Do you remember your first makeup item?

I remember the first item I bought which was clear mascara by Essence. But I'd say my first item came from my mothers makeup bag! I loved the clear mascara like I thought I was deadly. Without it adding darkness, obviously, my lashes just looked lifted and curled and I thought people would be so jel of my 'natural' lashes hahah!

Describe your perfect mascara?

Don't we all want the same? Length, volume and curl? Well I need all three and I honestly don't think such thing exists. I find you have to use different types and brands of mascara to get what you want. I love NYC mascaras and I also love Lancome hypnosis mascara doll eyes! I find it gives me everything I want once layered with other mascaras.

What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?

Full coverage. Always. It's all or noting with me when it comes to makeup. I just feel like I need everything on my face covered and gone. I really do wish I could wear a light coverage and let some freckles come through but I just can't bring myself to do it. I love a flawless matter finish.

Favorite high end brand?

Oh god, I can't decide. I suppose mostly have MAC products but I love Smashbox and Chanel too! Let's just say I love them all.

What brand have you always wanted to try but still haven't?

Crazy to say but NYX, it is here in Ireland, I just haven't gotten round to trying it!

Favorite drugstore (chemist) brand?

Probably Sleek but I'd buy anything from the chemist.

Do you wear fake eye lashes?

Yep I do, not everyday and not every time I wear makeup. Usually only when I'm going out or have thick liner on.

Is there any kind of makeup you can't leave the house without?

Nope I can leave the house without any makeup on.

What is your most cherished beauty product?

My Chanel cream bronzer, oh my god.

How often do you shop for makeup?

Easily twice a week, depending on my bank balance.

Do you have a budget or spend freely?

I usually try to budget but if I have a good bit of money, anything can happen. I'm trying to only buy what I need for my freelance makeup kit, stock up on essentials as I'm saving to do a makeup course!

Do you use coupons, shop rewards, discounts and sales?

Of course! You would be silly not to take advance of saving a few euro.

What type of product do you buy the most?

Since I do freelance makeup, foundation & concealer are product I am always repurchasing.

Is there a brand you absolutely cannot stand?

I don't think so, I haven't really ever taken to Gosh though, nothing really attracts me to the brand.

Do you avoid certain ingredients in makeup?

Nope I don't and I probably should!

I don't really have a  routine but yeah I do change up the products I use.

I don't really care about packaging but I like MAC, Chanel, YSL and Sleek.

Are you clumsy putting on makeup?

As it's going on my face, no but I do drop things in the mean time

Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?

Yep I use Essence eye-shadow base and set with baby powder.

How many hair products do you use on a daily basis?

Well after I wash my hair I use a conditioning spray, a mousse and then more spray to make my hair grey

What do you apply first? Foundation or concealer?

Foundation

Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?

All the time. At the moment I am self taught and I'd always love to keep learning more and more about makeup.

What do you love about makeup?

I love how its temporary. You can make your face as crazy as you want one day and as natural as you like the next day! You can do anything you want, there are no rules. It can also help you feel a bit more confident in yourself. You can look different every single day!

What is real beauty to you?

Being happy, healthy and confident. Not overly confident but happy in your own skin. I think you can see real beauty in someones smile and eyes! As cheesy as it sounds just being comfortable in yourself is beauty to me.

What's more important to you? Inner or outer beauty?

Inner of course! It's what's on the inside that counts. You could have the nicest makeup ever on your face but if a horrible personality comes along with that pretty face then you may as well not have your winged liner on point because no one will care.

Are you confident without makeup on?

Yeah I'd like to think so, I can leave the house and go around town shopping without makeup. I absolutely love makeup but I can still function without it haha! I'll even take a selfie or two to share online if my skin is clear!

What makes a beautiful person?

So many things but I would say personality mostly! It's like the second question really, just be a nice, kind and caring person. Don't forget where you came from, always remain humble and appreciate the people you meet on your way up and give back as much as you can.

Do you feel different with your makeup on and off?

I feel more creative with makeup on but I wouldn't say I feel extremely different. I feel a bit better about myself when I have a few pimples and they're covered. As I said already I don't mind wearing it and not wearing it, I don't wear it everyday. Actually I don't wear it more than I do wear it haha. I love not wearing makeup, lets my skin breath and I can nap whenever and where ever I want!
