How To: Special FX without the Special Makeup

Hi everyone!

Today I was faced with a challenge of doing 'wound' makeup on two lovely clients! Now I'm not even trained for normal makeup never mind special fx. Thankfully, I'm the type of person that can learn by watching, I don't really need to do it to learn it, if that makes sense.

Anyway, being the OCD and perfectionist freak that I am, had to make these cuts and gun shot wounds the best that I possibly could but without the famous liquid latex. Seriously Dungarvan, can somewhere stock it pls? I couldn't find it around town anywhere.

I became panicked because everyone on YouTube uses liquid latex when doing special fx but I didn't have any. So I search for special fx without latex and sure loads came up! Delighted, however some just didn't look real enough for me so I had to keep looking until I found the perfect tutorial.

But this 'perfect' tutorial was still just too messy so now I've made my own.

All you will need:

  • Lash glue
  • Tissue paper
  • Tweezers
You only need 3 things to create the shape of the wound and then eye shadows and fake blood add even more to it.

Gun Shot Wound

Firstly, do your makeup as normal. Then decide where you want the wound to be, I would recommend a place on the face/body that doesn't wrinkle. We decided to place it just under the eye.

Take your tissue paper and if it's two ply then pull it apart to make it super thin. Take a small section and twist them into a thin rope like thing then join the two ends of the little tissue rope thing with your lash glue to make the circle.

Once you have the circle made, put lash glue on one side of the little circle, let the glue dry for a few seconds and then place onto the face/body. Let that dry - pop on your lashes or something. You can also press the circle into the face more to blend it in more.

Your circle should be stuck and dried to the face after a minute or two. Cover the circle with whatever foundation is left over on your brush or concealer - just to blend it into the skin more. Now grab your shadows. You will need black, red and brown.

Place black shadow in the circle for some depth. Apply some red to the edges of the circle and then some brown around the outer edges and on to the skin around the wound.

Now for the fun, messy bit! Pop a small bit of blood into the circle and let some drip down out of the wound. And you're done!

Stab Wound

The same thing again only make two little tissue ropes and lay them down beside each other, leaving a small gap for the 'stab' effect. Same thing again goes for the shadows and fake blood! Easy peasy :)

I recommended a tweezers because it just helps when applying the tissue to the face and also if you want to pull a bit at the tissue to make it more messy then use your tweezers to do so.

Hope you enjoyed this post and learned a quick little tip about special fx makeup. Also a really nice touch for a Halloween party if you don't want to go over the top. I love the girls idea of just having that small gory detail on the face and still remaining glam!

Christmas Guide For Your Girl!

Hey everyone!

As Christmas is fast approaching, I know another year almost gone, I thought it would be a great idea to create a Christmas guide, makeup related obv, for that special girl or guy in your life!

Some of these products I will already have myself and some I won't have, but for the ones I have, I wouldn't recommend it unless I loved it myself!

Now everything here depends on how much that special someone loves makeup. I will begin with the cheaper products and make my way up to a total makeup junkie! Hope you enjoy.

First of all Sleek is an amazing, cheaper brand that any girl will adore. I personally love their eye shadow palettes, with over 14 to choose from you will definitely find one to suit! These cost only €10 and can be bought in most chemists.

http://www.boots.ie/en/Sleek-Make-Up/Eye-Shadow/

For lipsticks I would also go for Sleek lipsticks, as they are so pigmented and last all day long! These cost just €6.50 or so! And they have so many shades to choose from.

http://www.boots.ie/en/Sleek-Make-Up/Lip-Colour/

And I have heard that NYX lipsticks are also amazing and last all night long! These are about €10 depending on what type you pick up but these high voltage ones are meant to be unreal.

http://www.meagherspharmacy.ie/nyx-59832

For a contouring kit, I wouldn't go passed my Blank Canvas contour kit! It's only €15 and amazing, I rather this over my €50 ABH contour kit. Use the code: W10OFF to get 10% off!

http://www.cloud10beauty.com/blank-canvas-6-contour-highlight-palette.html

This is another contour kit but for the highlighter, again we go back to sleek! I have seen this on people before and the payoff is amazing for highlighting! #highlightonfleek

http://www.cloud10beauty.com/makeup/make-up/highlighter/sleek-face-contour-kit-4407.html

I think I have covered most areas, I mean you wouldn't be buying your friend/boyfriend/girlfriend foundation, concealer or a brow kit really! Those things are hard enough to match when shopping for yourself let alone buying for another person.

So if you're on a budget or maybe that loved one isn't into makeup as much as others but still enjoys makeup then I think the products I have mentioned would be perfect for them!

A palette or lippy is always a treat to get. There are many other brands out there that have amazing products but I'm just in love with SleekMakeUP because the quality is amazing and it's very affordable.

Onto the high end..the expensive end.

You probably all know what I'm going to say first for a palette. Yep, the Naked Smoky by Urban Decay. I'm not going to say anymore because it speaks for itself but note that its like €46.

http://www.debenhams.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10052_10001_123932046199_-1

Another palette that would be fab as a gift would be the Chocolate Bar palette by Too Faced. It smells like chocolate. Speaks to itself again. Costs €47.

http://www.debenhams.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10052_10001_154614100899_-1

Last palette haha and it's from theBalm! It's the Meet Matt(e) Nude palette. If you buy from www.cloud10beauty.ie use the code: W10OFF for 10% off! Costs €43 before discount :)

http://www.cloud10beauty.com/thebalm-meet-matte-nude.html

For a high end lippy, you know I'm going to say MAC. No explanation needed just go pick up one and any colour will do! €20.

  • For nude: Honeylove
  • For red: Russian Red
  • For purple: Heroine
  • For plum: Rebel
  • For orange: Morange
  • For pink: Pink Plaid
  • For vampy: Sin

High end highlighter is hands down Marylou by theBalm. Can be found on cloud10beauty for €20 or get three of theBalm's highlighters for €28 and use the discount code on cloud10beauty! :)

And last but not least. Bronzer. This one is extremely fancy but worth it, it's just amazing. Famous in its own right. It's the cream bronzer from Chanel. Costing about €40 but well worth it, I have it myself and I adore it.

http://www.boots.ie/en/CHANEL-SOLEIL-TAN-DE-CHANEL-BRONZE-UNIVERSEL-Bronzing-Makeup-Base-30ml_920442/

And onto brushes.
Cheaper ones I would recommend: Real Techniques.
Expensive ones I would recommend: Sigma.

I think that's it! Just pop me a message if you ever need an idea with gifts or what brands/products to go for! Hope you found this helpful and got some good ideas!

Halloween Makeup!

Hi everyone!

As you may have seen, I've been trying out a few Halloween makeup looks since the beginning of October! I have so far only done three looks on myself and one look on a client.

My inspiration came from some of my favourite YouTubers. I just want to show you my looks and also links to the videos that I watched to re-create these looks. I hope you find this a bit easier now when it comes to deciding on what to be for halloween! Enjoy :)

First up we have our Zipper makeup

I got my inspiration from Megan Parker on YouTube and I got the kit in Dealz for €1.49! Great cheap idea and is perfect for boys and girls :)

Next up I attempted the Jigsaw face as requested by a client :) Didn't turn out as well as I would have liked and I referenced a picture instead of a video but here's a video to help you. My wig is from Dealz haha.

And finally is my colourful skull inspired by Desi Perkins on Youtube! I followed her video exactly but instead of paint I used just normal eyeshadows.

Thanks for reading and Happy Halloween! Xx

The First YouTube Video - Fail.

Hi everyone!

Today I tried and failed miserably to create a YouTube video. I was just going to do a very basic everyday look, nothing too hard!

Well my experience just wasn't great. You have no idea what goes into making professional looking videos and I applaud those that do. Firstly, the setting up is ridiculous, trying to find the right angle and right lighting? I'd nearly make a video on that first.

Anyway once the set up was done, I thought great lets go! Ah well shakes how are ya? I couldn't stop shaking with nerves haha. But that was okay too I guess everyone gets those. My plan was to just record the makeup and put a music overlay - no talking at all. So I stuck to that plan.

I just sat down and began filming and sure when I got comfortable didn't the camera's battery go..

Then I switched to my phone which is an iPhone 5 so I knew it would pick up HD quality but then my storage was full. Couldn't catch a break today!

Anyway, I filmed what I did and threw the best bits into a video. It's not the best, it's probably the worst. But I'm keeping it to show how far I've come because some day I would love to be making proper videos as I would imagine they are the easiest for everyone to understand because we have audio, visual and typing!

I hope you enjoy :)

Little Update..

Hi everyone!

Hope you're all well.

I just wanted to make this blog post so you know what I've been doing and maybe why my blog hasn't been up to scratch, well there are a number of reasons.

As you may know I've been back in college the last six weeks and that's fine and good but now the assignments are starting to build up, I'm on a mission this year to get everything done early and that actually is going to plan so I've been busy with typing up reports and the sorts!

Secondly, I'm honestly lacking a bit of creativity because I don't really know what you like seeing! I know you loved my makeup journey and hair journey but unfortunately I have no more journeys haha. I will now be trying to plan blog posts and get ideas from YouTube videos and other blog posts.

Speaking of YouTube videos, I would love to make one and may try it this weekend!

Thirdly because I haven't been shopping too much and when I have I just briefly post about it on either Instagram, Snapchat or my Facebook page so I don't know should I then blog about it once they actually arrive and once I've used them? Maybe I still will, I'm undecided.

And fourth is because I am just also so busy with everything else. College comes with going out on the weekdays and my work entails working weekends! No rest for the wicked, and if I ever have time free I do try my best to see friends and family.

So I hope you all can understand this but please leave me ideas, feedback, anything! It would be appreciated so much :)

If I do go down the route of YouTube videos I will be using my blog to list the products used in each video because no one reads the info box on YouTube haha!

Sorry for such a boring post, hope you all have a great weekend :) I'm delighted to be making up faces over the weekend and I am buzzing for Halloween!

You may have seen that an Irish illustrator was made widely known due to Kim K posting her illustrations! I just want to say a huge congrats to Emma Kenny! Amazing achievement and I'm delighted that she designed my logo that you see everywhere with me. Hard work really does pay off!

Mini Haul!

Hi again :)

Just wanted to share a few products I got in town yesterday with you all because I gave them a go and I really like them already!

So I've been needing a setting spray with a while and finally it was in stock in Murray's Pharmacy. It is the NYX matte setting spray (also available in dewy finish) but I powder myself and clients and add a tone of highlighter so I opted for the matte finish this time. Only €10.

Then from the NYX stand I also picked up their brow pomade! A little dupe for the ABH dipbrow. I got the shade chocolate which is very similar to the Inglot brow pomade in number 12! Amazing dupe as I used it on myself and clients yesterday, the consistency is so creamy and blends out amazingly. Only €7.50!

Then I went to New Look for clothes but came out with makeup. Thanks Jessica for recommending the baked highlighter to me! It's absolutely amazing and there were only two left I couldn't leave it there. Girls if you're looking for a high quality highlighter at an affordable price I would recommend the New Look highlighter too! I think this cost about €9 and the pay off is amaze. Here is the product and I applied this to Danielle last night so just look at her highlight because this is it!

Btw shes not that oily, I actually just go mad with the highlighter cause I love it so much myself haha. In case you're wondering, her eye look is done all with my Inglot shadows and palette that I made a while back! And lips are Liar by Urban Decay and Honeylove by MAC. How pretty is she tho!

Danielle also has the NYX brow pomade on her brows ^^

Hope you enjoyed this little haul and pick up one or all of these as a treat to yourself!

First Impression: Catrice Even Skin Tone Foundation

Hey everyone!

Today I want to share with you my thoughts on the newest Catrice foundation that has hit the shelves. I have blogged about this before and wanted to try it for myself!

http://jodirochemakeup.blogspot.ie/2015/09/new-catrice-foundation.html

So that's the foundation and it's in the shade 005 which is the palest shade.

I should let you know that I didn't use a face primer during this trial with the foundation. That's my before and after! Sorry about the before haha. But the after is just the foundation alone, no concealer or powder or anything! Just wanted to show you the foundation in all of its glory.

And here is a photo of my base, the foundation, my concealer (MAC NC20) and powder (Baby powder). Lashes are from eBay and I love them.

And here is my full face done for the day! Lip colour is Inglot Matte Lipstick in 425.

The only thing I disliked about the foundation initially was the smell. This foundation is approved by dermatologists so it does have some properties in it to help clear up your skin so yeah there's kinda a chemical smell to it but that goes away after a while.

This picture was taken at about 4 o clock in the day so it had been on for 8 hours and you can see I was getting a bit oily but I have extremely oily skin. Other than that I think it stayed put very well. I also do not touch my face when I have makeup on, I didn't get up at 6 in the morning and work at my face for two hours to have it rubbed off 2 hours later haha, I have OCD. I just try to not touch my face at all.

So I have no more pictures after that but honestly there wasn't much of a change at all and I had it on until midnight! So the staying power is amazing!

I really like this foundation for everyday use, I wouldn't use this for going out but for everyday it's my new fav! Sure for €8 you can't go wrong :)

I'm sure if I used primer, I wouldn't have gotten as oily and also if I touched up with powder or blotting sheets it would have looked perfect.

I would highly recommend this foundation or any other foundation from the Catrice range. I really like the Matt Plus formula too but this one is amazing for pale people like myself.

I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know if you try out this foundation too.
